Connections 2025

Tuesday, August 19 and Wednesday, August 20

Connections is an annual conference organized by employees for employees. It is about connecting face-to-face with colleagues from different departments and campuses, and celebrating the strengths and diversity of the people who work here through interactive social activities and fun informative workshops.

Join your colleagues on either Aug. 19 or 20 at 果酱视频's 20th Annual Employee Learning Conference. Join the opening session and hear from the keynote speaker, Beth Hanishewski, check out some workshops and round off the day at the social.

Student Fundraiser

Each year 果酱视频 students access a range of resources and supports through the VSA果酱视频 (Vernon Students鈥 Association 果酱视频) and 果酱视频SU (果酱视频 Students鈥 Union) including the Pantry, which provides students with a range of non-perishable food items and basic hygiene and toiletry items.

Connections will be collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations to support these valuable student supports. During morning registration, please bring your donation to the check in table.

Description: Concussion, a form of mild traumatic brain injury, is an invisible injury that involves more than just a headache and dizziness. It can also include difficulty concentrating, memory loss, and executive dysfunction, all of which can negatively impact academic participation. In this workshop, we will explore strategies for supporting students who are recovering from a concussion.

Description: No PhD? No Problem! Research is often seen as something that requires extensive education and training to do. While this is true in some cases, we are seeing research practices being used more and more in practical and accessible ways. In this session, Applied Research and Friends will introduce participants to different qualitative research approaches. Together we will explore a research question. Some pre-work may be required.

Description: The Care System is 果酱视频鈥檚 online referral tool designed to help employees connect students to support for academic, personal, or well-being challenges. This session will provide an overview of how the system works, when to use it, and what happens after a referral is submitted. Facilitated by the Coordinated Support Services (CSS) team, this session will also highlight the work CSS does to support students and how faculty and staff can collaborate with us to promote student success. Join us for an interactive discussion on how to effectively use this resource to better support students.

Description: Hold on tight鈥攖he ground might start rocking any minute! Exact numbers can vary depending on the model, but a commonly cited figure for the broader southwestern BC region (which includes the Okanagan) is that there is anywhere from a 10% to 30% chance of experiencing damaging ground shaking from a moderate-to-large earthquake (around magnitude 6.0 or greater) over a 50-year span.

But don鈥檛 worry, this workshop will have you feeling more excited than anxious about what鈥檚 beneath your feet. Join us for a fun, hands-on crash course in all things quake-related. We鈥檒l show you how to pack the three essential emergency kits everyone should have.

Description: Secondary data is a time-effective and efficient way to access large datasets, identify research gaps, and gain valuable insights into historical and current trends and patterns without conducting extensive primary data collection and analysis. In addition, learning how to identify, access and use secondary data is an essential skill that your students will benefit from - now and in their future educational endeavors and careers. 

In this session you will be introduced to interactive Statistics Canada Data Tables, Statistics Canada / Postsecondary Data Liberation Initiative (DLI), the BC and Government of Canada Open Data portals, health-related data from the Canadian Institute of Health Information (CIHI) and the World Health Organization, and health, country and economic information data from the OECD.
