Probation
Academic students earning a GPA for the semester below 55% will receive notification about academic probation. There are 3 levels of academic probation:
- Notice
- Academic probation
- Suspension
Health and Social Development probation policy is based on performance and practicum. A student who withdraws from or receives a failing grade in any course may be required to withdraw from all other program courses due to concurrent registration requirements.
Vocational and trades probation policy: If your performance is unsatisfactory, you miss classes without a valid reason, or you fail to follow safety rules, you may be placed on probation or removed from the program. For more details, please talk to your program Chair.
Academic notice: If your semester grade average falls below 55 per cent, you will be placed on academic notice. This won't show up on your transcript and won't affect your registration. It's just a warning to help you improve.
Academic probation: If your semester grade average is below 55 per cent for two consecutive semesters, you'll be placed on academic probation. This will show up on your transcript. While on probation, you'll need to withdraw from academic and professional classes for one semester.
Suspension: If your semester grade average is below 55 per cent for three semesters in a row, you will be suspended for 12 months. Academic suspensions may be reconsidered by both the program dean and the registrar upon student request.
To appeal, submit your request to your program dean or their designate by the first Friday of the semester when your suspension starts.
Approved reinstatements need to be submitted to the campus registration office. Summer semester is excluded from the probation period.
Probation policy for Health and Social Development:
If you withdraw or fail and want to re-enter the program, you should:
- Discuss it with the department chairperson
- Return within one year
- Apply for re-entry through the registrar's office
Re-entry following withdrawal: The college decides on readmission based on general admission policies. You won't get preference over other applicants. Decisions are made individually, considering:
- Your course performance at the time of withdrawal
- Previous instances of withdrawal or failure
- Resolution of issues that led to your withdrawal (e.g., financial problems, family responsibilities)
- Communication with the chairperson about your re-admission plans
Probation policy for Trades and Vocational programs:
¹û½´ÊÓƵ can terminate a student's training in vocational or vocational health programs for the following reasons:
